Abstract: Even if there are no fictional characters, we should agree that it is possible for different people to think and talk ‘about the same ones’. I call this phenomenon intersubjective identification, or co-identification. I have argued elsewhere (in a forthcoming paper) that we should explain co-identification by appeal to networks of information flow between different individual’s mental files. In this paper I summarize my account and consider objections.
